There cam a letter late yestreen
Oor ship maun sail the morn,
Alas cried the bonnie lass
That iver I wis born
An fan he cam tae her faithers hoose,
At twal o’ clock at noon,
This lassie bein prood hairtit
She widna let him in
CHORUS
And it’s braw sailin on the sea
Fan wind and weathers fair
It’s better tae be in my loves airms
And o gin I were there
He’s taen the ring fae his pocket,
It cost him guinnes three,
Say’s tak ye that, ma bonnie lass,
And aye think weel o me
She’s taen the ring fae her pocket,
It cost him shillin’s nine,
Says tak ye that, my bonnie lad
Fur I hae chynged my min
It’s braw drinkin Glesca beer,
It’s better drinkin wine
But it’s better tae be in my loves airms
Far I’ve been monys the time
There’ cam a letter late yestreen,
An noo his hairt is torn,
And he’ll sit sae late wi his true love,
But he’ll pairt wi her the morn
