The Auldeners are a Glasgow-based trio performing reinterpretations of Appalachian ballads and American old-time tunes. Their repertoire also spans old Country classics, as well as Irish and Scottish folksongs that have crossed the Atlantic with the settlers emigrating from these areas. In April 2019, they presented this new body of work at a sold-out performance at Aberdeen Music Hall, and have since performed at the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow and at the Star Folk Club, supporting Malinky. The trio have also performed on BBC Scotland’s The Quay Sessions.

Aberdeenshire folksinger, Iona Fyfe, has become one of Scotland’s finest young ballad singers, rooted deeply in the singing traditions of the North East of Scotland. Winner of Scots Singer of the Year at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2018, Iona has been described as “one of the best Scotland has to offer.” (Global-Music.de) Released in 2019, Dark Turn of Mind is Iona’s first EP entirely in English and features six ballads and songs found in both Appalachia and Aberdeenshire and has been described as “a new interpretation to the country genre” – Maverick.

Callum Morton-Teng studied at the City of Edinburgh Music School and is currently is his final year of his bachelor’s degree in mandolin at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Winner of the 2016 BMG Solo Mandolin Competition and a founding member of acclaimed Western Classical and South-American tango fusion Duet “MK Duo,” Callum has performed in venues across Scotland. Callum studied mandolin at East Tennessee State University through the Erasmus+ International Exchange programme, performing with Bluegrass bands in Nashville, Crossville, and Johnson City. Callum was also mandolinist in ETSU’s Celtic pride band, live-featured on Johnson City Radio WETS FM.

From the USA, Ellen Gira has performed and recorded with Scots singer Iona Fyfe, Irish fiddler Manus McGuire, and U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion Seán Heely, among many other prominent traditional musicians, and her performances have been broadcasted live on BBC Radio 3 and on NBC’s Viewpoint. She will also begin teaching at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland this fall. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Cello Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, her masters of Scottish music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and is currently pursuing a PhD at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
